HEAP minutes 10/12/08 Present: adam, em, graham, tom, simon

1. MATTERS ARISING all done except:

• T to sort list of groups who’ve been to the HEAP and send to committee by Saturday eve

let’s tap into the Bohemia of Levenshulme – in Dec/Jan, let’s organise a 6-month program of activities for hippies. They’ll go mad for it.

2. FOOD FUTURES Graham feeling really unsuported in food futures process

• most of the money has been spent, so maybe wrap it up?
• Gr to send ultimatum e-mail and see if anyone replies
• Em to speak to Helen about food futures from her perspective
• Suggestion of asking food futures if we can spend the rest of the money on a permaculture design course at the HEAP (tomas? – em/t to ask tomas)

3. ALLOTMENT COMMITTEE Graham feeling like he’s stuck in the middle between heap and committee, not enjoying the committee process. Thinking of resigning.

• perhaps better to focus positive energy into the heap

4. WORK WEEKEND SOS workday 10/11 January, with food and fire, 10-4

• raised bed building – gill scaff boards? Offcuts from sawmill (Tom)
• paths
• fruit bush planting – graham to check out groovy fruity things + seeds
• fencing - gill
• turn/add fertility/build up soil on existing beds
• em and tom to do food
• em to do blurb for e-lists inc call for regular commitment, inc dates

5. WORKDAYS jan 18th, feb 22nd, march 15th + Wednesdays, 11-4 6. BED PREPARATION add allotmentalated soil and compost to existing beds – do in january

• mulch currently bare beds - asap

7. GARLIC plant garlic, do it now! – graham to check hulme garden centre 8. ROTATIONS graham has found good system, but we need to sort out what’s been grown where

• T to look out previous map, sort out on wed
• Need a better system for saying what we’re growing

9. BOOKS si has bought a load of books,

• need to see which one we want to have as our standard textbook. Graham to look out vegan organic book.
• graham to give out password for garden organic members area, which has really good month-by-month what-to-do section

10. NOTICES FOR ANTI-VANDAL PAINT em to make laminated warning signs, to be hung on wednesday 11. SHIPPING CONTAINER we have lighting. It’s dangerous – could start fires if not careful. Don’t play around with it. Needs voltage checking. Need better multimeter. Si to make instructions sheet.
